Why public goal sharing works
June 1st, 2011
Welcome everyone and enjoy the very first Today's Goal blog post!
Today I would like to discuss exactly why public goal sharing works so well. So why does it work? Well, some scientist actually conducted experiments in goal achievement and came up with the fact that sharing your biggest (and smallest) goals with a friend or the public will actually double your chances of success. That's awesome!

So all you have to do is publicly announce your goals and they come true right? Well, sort of The goal setter will still have to put forth effort in achieving the goal, but what sharing your goal does do is force yourself to commit to the goal. By publicly announcing your goal, your ego comes into play and makes you push harder to achieve. One doesn't want to let others down in any circumstance, so with public goal setting it works much the same. Think about when someone commits to quit smoking. The first thing they do if they want to succeed is tell all their family and friends. This is because if everyone knows your intentions, they will keep you on track and you will not purposely disappoint them.
By typing or writing out the goal it also commits it to your subconscious better because now you have thought about it, told a friend, and written it down. So that's three times you have thought about it, and now affirmation has taken part. Affirmation is when you repeat something and commit it to memory allowing your subconscious to really take notice. You believe in it, and it is true. So your mind finally makes it true.
Until next time, I hope you enjoyed this post on why public goal setting works, thanks!

Here is what the acronym SMARTER stands for:
Specific goals. Set specific goals that outline all the details of the goal down to the smallest detail.
Measurable goals. Set measurable goals that mean something to you. Simply goals that YOU can measure in you thoughts.
Attainable goals. Set attainable goals that are not so unrealistic that you could never achieve them.
Relevant goals. Set relevant goals that will push you in the right direction.
Timely goals. Set time-bound goals that must be accomplished by a certain date and time. You can even break the goal down to small steps and set a deadline for the steps to make it even easier.
Evaluate the goal. Take time to evaluate the goal to make sure it fits you, and that it is smart.
Re-evaluate the goal. After goal completion ask yourself what went right and wrong while the goal achieving process was taking place. Use this feedback for you next goal to ease the way.
Keep this list in mind as you set your next goal. Make sure each and every goal you set is a SMARTER goal!
